- Create synonyms for said that give more detail and variety to texts
- Create a plan/template using learnt knowledge about features of a newspaper article
Learning Experience Overview
- Ask students what they learnt about last lesson.
- Explain to students that they will be participating in three different activities all enhancing the way they write making it more interesting.
Words instead of "said"
- Write 3 direct quotes on the board using said each time.
- Ask students if these sentences sound interesting? Ask if they could be more exciting? How?
- Explain that "said" is being used to many times in their writing currently and they need to think to think of some more interesting alternatives.
- An empty box has been set up in the "would you like a synonym with that?" wall for words instead of said.
- Advise students they have 10 minutes to come up with as many as they can and write them on a piece a paper along with their name. Students are able to look at books from the reading corner if they get stuck.
- The lists will be checked and the best answers will be added to the box for students to use.
Create a newspaper article framework
- Use newspaper article powerpoint to reinforce knowledge on the topic
- Ask students to build a graphic organiser similar to the ones they used when planning recounts.
- Remind students they need to have all the information they have learnt this unit.
