Formative Assessment
Students have two formative assessment pieces, one to asses students understanding of a newspaper article and each component of a newspaper articles purpose and two creating their own newspaper article applying this knowledge learnt throughout the unit.
The Explain Everything Video demonstrates that students can identity aspects of a newspaper article and supply justification as to way all these aspects are important. Once all students have completed this activity in learning experience nine the classroom teacher will watch all and complete a checklist and write feedback in the comments section. It is the teachers responsibility to make sure all students have received adequate feedback so students can improve upon their understanding.

The second piece of formative assessment is creating a newspaper article from a headline. This is where students can apply all learnt knowledge from the unit. Another checklist with space for each a comment on each item has been included. The classroom teacher will need to sit down with all students to verbally give feedback as well as checklist so students can improve and then apply feedback to the summative assessment task

Summative Assessment
This assessment task see students applying knowledge from both English and History Units and creating a newspaper report. This newspaper article is to include all components and display correct structure learnt during the English unit. The details and information about the Australian Gold Rush will come from students knowledge after the History Unit. Students have been given a purpose for this assessment by flashing back in time to write a newspaper article for an imaginary newspaper on the events of the first week on the gold rush. Before beginning to plan and create the text the entire class will deconstruct the task and rubric to understand what is expected of them and their writing.
