Learning Experience 3
Description
This learning experience is a mini lesson focusing on past tense. This is the foundation lesson on the language used before beginning to write texts such as recounts which then lead towards the summative assessment writing task. Students will already have prior knowledge on tenses however this will need to be revision lesson to make sure all students have the correct understanding before building upon this knowledge and kill (ACARA, n.d.).

- Understand the purpose of having different tenses
- Construct new sentences from present or future tense to past tense
Learning Experience Overview
- Using projector display these three sentences
- I am extremely excited because I am at Australia Zoo with my family.
- I was extremely excited when I went to Australian with my family.
- Pose questions as to what are the similarities and differences between these three sentences.
- Explain that these sentences are written in different tense. Identify which is past, present and future tense.
- Ask students what particular words make the sentence that particular tense. Underline these words from the example. Do these words have a name?
- Explain that these words are verbs. Ask what are verbs? Give examples.
- Explain that this lessons focus will be on past tense.
- Ask what sort of texts are written in past tense.
- Give example of sentences written in present or future tense and ask students to orally change the sentence to past tense.
- Hand out worksheet ask students to complete as this will help with their writing in lessons after the excursion.
