Year 5D Class
The five students with developmental delay in literacy and the two ESL students will have additional support in learning experiences which require creating and responding to texts. When the literacy support assistant attends these lessons most if not all this students will be in the same groups giving the aide an easier opportunity to keep all students on task and help these students specifically or all together.
Activities have been adapted for these students so the outcome is still the same however the topic or required work may be adjusted so students can still be successful and the task be achievable.
A variety of short and engaging activities in rotation will assist the child with ADHD. As these activities only allow concentration for 10-15 minutes before engaging in a brand new activity this will appeal to this particular student. Also the incorporation of the team relay and game show allows for this student to move around the classroom and yet still be actively involved in the task.
For the student identified as gifted tasks have been altered to be more challenging for this particular child. In group work situations this students is given the opportunity to research a topic themselves and present to the class. With the assessment tasks it is expected that student will provide more detail in response and writing.
The rotation activities have also been implemented to encourage more parent/caregiver helpers. This can also be said for the group activities as well. Each adult can be given a group to work with for the entire lesson which will allow students to constantly have someone scaffolding their learning as well as someone to clarify and assist if needed.
For the indigenous students providing hand held materials and visuals with help with their understanding and learning. To assist the student with a hearing impairment this student needs to be positioned at the front on the classroom at all times and the classroom teacher will be required to wear and microphone as the classroom is equipped with speakers.
